Minister Bhagirath Choudhary Advocates for Sustainable Agricultural Development at National Conclave

National Agricultural Education and Research Managers Conclave, organized by the Bhartiya Agro-Economics Research Center in Delhi, highlighted the urgent need for policy evolution and enhanced funding in agricultural education.

Bhartiya Agro-Economics Research Center (BAERC) organized the National Agricultural Education and Research Managers Conclave in Delhi on 25 September 2024. During inaugural address Bhagirath Choudhary, Minister of State for Agriculture, Govt of India emphasized the need for comprehensive dialogue to evolve a policy for sustainable development of farmers.

Dinesh Kulkarni All India Organizing Secretary of Bhartiya Kisan Sangh elaborated that lack of policy review to strengthen public funded organization like universities and institutes is paralyzing contemporary growth. At valedictory program Dr. Krishan Gopal Ji, Sah-Sarkarwah, Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) concluded that the cost of agricultural produce should be delinked from inflation and made remunerative.

Pramod Chaudhari (President, BAERC), Adv. Vilas Sonawane (Vice-President, BAERC) and Dr. A. A. Murkute (Secretary, BAERC) were present during the occasion. Dr. S.K. Dubey (Vice-President, BAERC) extended a warm welcome to all the esteemed guests and conducted proceedings of two technical sessions viz. Agricultural Education and Agricultural Research.

The conclave saw participation from 15 vice-chancellors and 20 directors representing various universities and institutes across different states. Dr. B.S. Dwivedi (ASRB, Member), Dr. R.C. Aggrawal (DDG, Education), Dr. U. S. Gautham (DDG, Extension) and Dr. S.K. Chaudhary (DDG, NRM) were also present.

The discussions at the conclave revolved around the challenges and potential solutions related to agricultural education and research in India. Some of the key issues highlighted during the event were:

  • The declining interest of students in agriculture as a primary career choice.

  • Funding challenges faced by universities/institutes.

  • Lack of timely training for teachers and researchers.

  • Problems related to human resource management.

  • Deficiencies in infrastructure, particularly related to marketing and research.

The conclave provided a platform for university and research institute leaders to exchange insights and collaborate on strategies to strengthen agricultural education and research across the country.
