Tools that are powered by artificial intelligence (AI) are rapidly gaining popularity. Since the introduction of ChatGPT, which conversationally provides answers, several AI chatbots have made their debut in the tech sector.

One of these is GitaGPT, which claims that it can provide users with answers straight from the Bhagavad Gita. Likewise, Kissan GPT is another such chatbot that is designed to assist farmers in maximizing crop output.

What is Kissan GPT?

Kissan GPT is an AI-powered chatbot based on ChatGPT and Whisper for “the underserved agriculture domain of India.” It offers in-the-moment guidance on topics including crop cultivation, pest control, irrigation, and other issues about farming and was introduced by Pratik Desai on March 15 of this year.

Kissan GPT interface
The user interface of Kissan GPT is quite simple. Unlike other popular AI chatbots that have the option to write their queries, Kissan GPT accesses users’ phone or laptop microphones for inputs. It supports 10 Indian languages, including Hindi, English, Bengali, Marathi, and Gujarati, along with Portuguese, Japanese, Spanish, and Indonesian.
Farmers can interact with the chatbot through their smartphones in their language and get detailed answers to their queries in seconds.

How does Kissan GPT work?

As per the information provided on the website, Kissan GPT authorizes OpenAI's ChatGPT technology and combines the platform’s knowledge base to deliver the answers. In a tweet, Desai said that the chatbot uses ChatGPT-3.5-turbo. He also noted that the team is “expecting results to enhance after GPT-4 and adding custom embeddings.”

The company said, “Kissan GPT is not only designed for farmers but anyone with an interest in agriculture such as researchers, students, and even hobbyists.”

What’s next for Kissan GPT?

On March 31 in a tweet, Desai provided an update on Kissan GPT. He said that the AI chatbot is on track to serve 10% volume of farmer call centers. The platform is also looking forward to collaborating with the government and agriculture institutes to improve the results.

Without providing many details, he also said that mobile apps are also coming, and along with this, two more languages will be added soon. Desai also added that he is working on Bharat GPT too!!
