On Sunday, the Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP), Bajrang Dal, and Gau Raksha Dal held a mahapanchayat at Sangel Gaushala in Ujina, a Hindu-majority village 11 kilometers from Nuh on the Hodal-Nuh route. Hundreds of gau rakshaks attended the event, hoping to find a solution to the 'cow slaughter threat.'
The mahapanchayat demanded that cattle smugglers' assets be attached and auctioned in a charter handed over to Sohna MLA Sanjay Singh. According to them, the revenues from these auctions should be used to fund gaushalas in Nuh. They also requested that all cattle smugglers be tried and punished in Gau Raksha courts after their records were retrieved.
The gau rakshaks also demanded that FIRs against them be dropped and that they be granted arms licenses to protect cows. The group demanded the arrest of those they claimed were sponsoring cow slaughter.
"We've had enough of this bother." It's past time for the administration to show that it's serious about ending cow slaughter. Cattle traffickers must be punished harshly, according to VHP secretary Yashwant Shekhawat.
Sanjay Singh, in response to the charter of demands, stated that cow slaughter is a crime that the government does not support. He promised the group that he would convey the sentiments of the mahapanchayat to Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar.
The mahapanchayat was also attended by a group led by Kulbhushan Bhardwaj, legal advisor to the Sanyukt Hindu Sangharsh Samiti (SHSS), an umbrella organization of Hindu organizations conducting protests against giving namaz in public locations.
"We've given a one-month deadline to dismiss all cases filed against Hindus who are seeking to curb cow slaughter," Bharadwaj added. Participating Hindu groups had organized a WhatsApp group, and police authorities asked that people join in large numbers as a show of strength.
The mahapanchayat was formed in response to two occurrences that happened on April 23 and 24. Cow vigilantes and Bajrang Dal members stormed Sheikhpur and Rawli villages, yelling "Jai Shree Ram," firing gunshots and allegedly kidnapping three cow slaughter suspects.
The three were later detained for alleged cattle smuggling by Nuh police under sections 13 (1) and 13 (3) of the Haryana Gauvansh Sanrakshan and Gausamvardhan Act, 2015.
The organizers were granted permission to hold the mahapanchayat on Saturday, according to Nuh deputy commissioner Ajay Kumar.
"Law and order was not disrupted, and the mahapanchayat was held in a peaceful manner," he stated. Nuh Superintendent of Police Varun Singla claimed that no complaints about the incident have been received so far.
