Lok Sabha Polls 2019: Know the New Features for Voters this Election

The Election Commission yesterday (10th March) said that the Lok Sabha election 2019 will be held in seven phases across India. Chief Election Commission, Sunil Arora while addressing media said that the Model Code of Conduct has come into force as it declared the schedule for the 17th Lok Sabha elections. The elections will be held from 11 April to 19 May and the results will be announced on 23 May. Almost 90 crore voters will be eligible to take part in the election for 543 Lok Sabha constituencies across India.

The Election Commission yesterday (10th March) said that the Lok Sabha election 2019 will be held in seven phases across India. Chief Election Commission, Sunil Arora while addressing media said that the Model Code of Conduct has come into force as it declared the schedule for the 17th Lok Sabha elections. The elections will be held from 11 April to 19 May and the results will be announced on 23 May. Almost 90 crore voters will be eligible to take part in the election for 543 Lok Sabha constituencies across India.

Chief Election Commissioner also told that the commission has conducted several discussions with various stakeholders to incorporate some new features that will boost the democratic process.

Here are some of the new features of 2019 Lok Sabha Elections:

1. This time, faces of the contestants along with their party symbol will be displayed on the electronic voting machines (EVM) throughout the nation.

2. At the polling stations, photo voter slip shall be used for supervision or help but not as a proof of identity.

3. The voters can make use of an Android application to record misconduct during polls and later send it to the Election Commission. CEC said a government officer is duty bound to take action to the complaint in 100 minutes (1 hour and 20 minutes).

4. Chief Election Commissioner told that Google, YouTube, Facebook have said all political advertisements will be certified.

5. The voter helpline number to check the names and election-related details or information is 1950.

6. CEC, Sunil Arora also mentioned that there will 10 lakh voting booths in the Lok Sabha elections this year. In addition, an auxillary voting booth could be opened at the last moment.

7. The contenders will have to provide the details of their social media accounts at the time of the filling.

8. VVPAT or Voter verifiable paper audit trail will be used at all the polling booths in the Lok Sabha elections 2019.

9. Last but not the last, around 90 crore voters will be eligible to cast their vote for 543 Lok Sabha constituencies across the country.
