On Tuesday, Karnataka Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai announced that the Land Ownership Scheme subsidy for Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe people will be doubled to Rs 20 lakh from the current Rs 15 lakh.
The CM said they had made a decision to this effect while speaking at a ceremony to deliver the Babu Jagjivan Ram awards. A land ownership subsidy is provided to low-income people from SC and ST communities to assist them in purchasing land.
The government has also doubled the subsidy granted to such communities for the construction of houses from Rs 1.75 lakh to Rs 2 lakh.
According to the CM, the government has decided to create a Babu Jagjivan Ram Self Employment Scheme for SC and ST people in each taluk, which will be enacted within a week.
According to a statement released by the Chief Minister's Office, a unique scheme will be started this year to provide preparation for SC and ST students in boarding schools to appear in various competitive exams.
Bommai further announced that the state administration has agreed to provide free electricity to these remote settlements in the amount of 75 units and that a government decision to that effect will be issued within the next week.
Babu Jagjivan Ram, the CM added, was the essence of honesty and integrity, and he deserves credit for making India self-sufficient in foodgrain production.
Commotion in front of the CM
During the program, members of the Karnataka Adi Jambava Association created a ruckus in the Vidhana Soudha dining hall. They said that the government had not effectively organized the initiative and had failed to publicize it.
According to them, there was a minimal turnout, with the CM and other dignitaries delivering addresses to empty seats.
In front of Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai, the incident occurred. Police had to step in and dispatch them.
