The Annual Zonal Workshop of Krishi Vigyan Kendras (KVKs) concluded with a vibrant valedictory programme at the Fisheries College, Lembucherra, uniting agricultural experts, policymakers, and stakeholders to reflect on shared insights and outline a strategic path for agricultural development in North Eastern India. The event began with remarks from Dr. Dipal Roy Chaudhury, Joint Director of the Protection of Plant Varieties and Farmers' Rights Authority (PPVFRA), who emphasized the urgent need to protect farmers' rights.
“As we move forward, it is imperative that we ensure farmers are recognized and rewarded for their contributions to biodiversity. Our policies must empower them with both knowledge and resources,” he asserted. In his role as convenor, Dr. A. K. Mohanty, Director of ICAR-ATARI Zone VII, presented a future roadmap for KVKs, commending the team for their efforts in making the programme a success. He stressed the necessity of integrating technology into agriculture to enhance productivity.
Dr. Ranjit Sharma, Director of Extension and Education at Central Agricultural University (I), discussed the pivotal role of Farmers' Producer Organizations in transferring technology to the field, emphasizing their importance in bridging the gap between research and practical application.
Dr. Ratan Kumar Saha, Vice-Chancellor of Techno India University, praised the dedication of KVK staff and advocated for career development initiatives that recognize their contributions. Dr. Manas Mohan Adhikary, Former Vice-Chancellor of Bidhan Chandra Krishi Viswavidyalaya, called for policy reforms to better acknowledge the efforts of KVK staff, while Dr. A. K. Singha, Principal Scientist at ICAR-ATARI Zone VII and co-organising secretary, congratulated all team members for their commitment to the programme.
Dr. A. V. Patel, Dean of Fisheries College and organising secretary, emphasized the importance of collaboration between the agriculture and fisheries sectors. “Innovative partnerships are essential for advancing rural development,” he stated, underscoring the potential for synergy between these sectors.
The programme concluded with remarks from Jitendra Majumder, MLA from Kakraban, who praised PPVFRA's initiatives aimed at empowering farmers and emphasized the importance of stakeholder collaboration. “Together, we can create an environment that recognizes and protects farmers' contributions to agriculture,” he affirmed. As a highlight of the event, KVK Sephaijala received the Best KVK Award, while KVKs in Tripura were recognized for their outstanding exhibition stalls.
The valedictory programme ended with a collective commitment to advancing agriculture in North Eastern India, leaving participants optimistic about the future and focused on sustainable practices, farmer empowerment, and collaborative partnerships to foster a thriving agricultural ecosystem in the region.
