Krishi Vigyan Kendras (KVKs) in Ujwa, Delhi, recently concluded a comprehensive three-day skill development training program on "RPL Gardener" from March 28th to March 30th, 2024. This initiative, by the guidelines set forth by the Indian Skill Development Council (ISDC) and the National Skill Development Council (NSDC), aimed at harnessing the potential of agricultural workers by recognizing Prior Learning (RPL) and providing them with necessary training and certification. The primary objective was to augment the existing skills of farmers and agricultural laborers, ultimately enhancing their income prospects.
Dr. D.K. Rana, the KVK Ujwa- Head, extended a warm welcome to all participants at the onset of the program. He underscored the significance of such initiatives, initiated by the Indian government, in identifying and empowering workers associated with the agricultural sector through structured training, knowledge dissemination, and formal certification. The Krishi Vigyan Kendras in Delhi developed a training curriculum, thorough course materials, hands-on sessions, and instructional videos to guarantee efficient training delivery for all attendees.
During the program, Dr. Ritu Singh, a Specialist in Home Science, shared invaluable insights emphasizing the importance of continuous effort and practice in skill acquisition. She stressed the critical role of practical training sessions in enabling trainees to effectively improve their skills.
Conducting the training sessions, Dr. Rakesh Kumar, the Horticulture Specialist at KVK Ujwa, delved into various aspects of nursery production, plant management techniques, greenhouse operations, lawn establishment, nursery management practices, as well as pest and safety management protocols in gardening.
As the program concluded, Kailash, the broadcasting specialist at the center, highlighted the growing employment opportunities for gardeners and workers in peri-urban areas. A total of 40 trainees participated in the program, and their performance was evaluated by Dr. Deshpal Singh, the representative of the Indian Skill Development Council, through online assessment methods.
Successful trainees will be conferred with certificates accredited by the National Skill Development Council, acknowledging their enhanced skill set and paving the way for improved livelihood opportunities in the agricultural sector.
