Despite significant growth in agriculture over the last few decades, Indian Agriculture and the farming community continue to face serious challenges such as knowledge, information, and skill gaps; growing risks in agriculture; poor access to credit and investments, and so on. As a solution to this Krishi Jagran and HDFC Bank joined hands.
According to M.C. Dominic, Founder & Editor-in-Chief of Krishi Jagran, this collaboration aims to uplift the farming community and provide them with a high quality of life through appropriate channelization of Funds.
Speaking at the MoU signing ceremony, he said, “HDFC has set a benchmark in the banking sector and their interest in the farming sector is a major sign of growth for the future of the agri sector. They have taken the challenge to reach every village and excelled at it. They want every farmer that banks with HDFC to become a better entrepreneur and a businessman in rural space. We look forward to this collaboration with zeal.”
Anil Bhavanani, National Head - Semi Urban & Rural Banking of the HDFC Bank briefed about the MoU and how it will benefit this righteous cause. He said, “We had 75% of branches in metro and urban cities and we struggled to have the rest in rural as RBI says to have 25% branches in rural and now. We had 51% of branches in rural and the rest in metro and urban. This is because the banks are now moving towards semi-rural and urban spaces because 60% of the population is there. Whatever we eat, from our breakfast to dinner, is just because of our farmers, so, we have to give back to them as well whether it’s in terms of public responsibility or social responsibility or in terms of uplifting the farmer’s income. Krishi Jagran is disseminating information and knowledge about what is happening in the agriculture segment and that is where we want to participate.”
