The Department of Agriculture & Farmers' Welfare released the progress of area coverage under Kharif crops on Saturday, July 28, 2023.
Kharif Crop Sowing Area Progress
A number of crops have shown an upward trend including - rice, millet, oilseeds, and sugarcane. While the rice was cultivated in 233.25 hectares in 2022, it jumped up to 237.58 hectares in 2023. Millet or Shri Anna cum Coarse cereals land usage rose by 2.28 hectares. Oilseeds have shown a steep rise from 167.61 hectares to 171.02 in 2023, while sugarcane crop was sown at 2.66 higher land this year.
Kharif Crop Sowing Area Scale Goes Downward
There are a number of crops that have recorded a downward trend. The area used for cultivation this year was comparatively low for pulses, arhar, urdbean, moongbean, and other pulses. Jute & Mesta as well as cotton production was affected due to less area used for sowing.
While the area of the pulse has been reduced from 109.15 to 96.84 this year, Jute & Mesta recorded a minimal difference of 0.55 hectares and cotton is 1.16 hectares less if compared with the figures of last year.
The overall progress of Kharif crop sowing noticed this year is above 830 Lakh Hectares. Here's a look at the entire table released by the government showing exact figures of crops.
