The rain has created total havoc in Kerala leading to severe flood situation in many places. A red alert has been issued in the districts of Idukki, Malappuram, Kozhikode and Wayanad after heavy rain, gusty winds and landslides across the state.
The second spell of the south-west monsoon intensified, resulting in a severe situation. Water levels in most of the rivers have risen and leading to severe flood situation in the nearby areas. Major rivers of the sates like Manimala, Meenachal, Moovattupuzha, Chaliyar, Valapattanam, Iruvazjinjpuzha and Pamba are crossing above the danger level.
Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan ordered an emergency meeting and analysis the situation of the state. "We have requested more NDRF teams to be sent to the state. Already two teams have been sent to Nilambur and Idukki," a CMO release said.
The Chief Minister's office has asked district collectors to evacuate people from danger prone and severe flood-affected areas. All educational institutions in most of the northern districts have been shut down including the districts of Kannur, Wayanad, and Malappuram, authorities said.
Among the worst-hit district, Wayanad is in the top of the list As per District Collector report; more than 8000 citizens have been rescued and accommodated in 94 relief camps. Necessary facilities are provided to the rescued people at these camps.
The District Collector of the flood-hit district requested people to help the flood-affected in this severe situation.
