Additionally, it aims to boost Jammu and Kashmir's farmers' and agribusinesses' involvement in the world market for agriculture. The third shipment under the 'New Product New Strategy' programme for this year was flagged off by Director of Agriculture for Kashmir, Chowdhury Mohammad Iqbal.
Speaking at the event, the director of agriculture noted that foreign markets are responding favourably to our produce. In order to ensure that the best product from the UT of Jammu and Kashmir reaches the international markets, he asked the officers to uphold the standards of international quality.
According to him, the department is working on a long-term, ambitious plan to strengthen UT of J&K's export promotion policy. Additionally, he stated that the department is working to attract more and more farmers and agri-preneurs to the international trade of Kashmir-specific agricultural products in order to increase the value of their output.
The proper marketing of Kashmir-specific vegetables, spices, and other agricultural produce at the international level is one of the top priorities, according to the director of agriculture, and various strategies have been developed in this direction by the department.
According to him, the department is working to expand the list of products in our agri-exports manual (such as vegetables and spices). According to the Director of Agriculture, exporting vegetables and other agricultural products to Dubai, Sharjah, Abu Dhabi, and other gulf markets has created a global market for Kashmir-specific agricultural products.
The economy of Jammu and Kashmir is primarily agricultural, with nearly 70% of the population employed directly or indirectly in agricultural and allied occupations.
