The nation celebrates Janmashtami with a lot of excitement, notably at Vrindavan, Barsana, Mathura, and Dwarka. In celebration of the birth of God, special festivities are planned in the temples of Lord Krishna, and followers pray until the middle of the night.
As per astrology, Lord Krishna was born on the Ashtami Tithi of Krishna Paksha in the Bhadrapada month. According to legend, the moon was in Taurus at the time, the sun was in Leo, and the Rohini constellation was visible. Therefore, people should observe the fast of Janmashtami on the same day when it is Ashtami Tithi at the night.
Other names for Janmashtami are Gokulashtami and Krishna Janmashtami. According to reports, Janmashtami will be observed this year on August 18 and 19.
