“Jan Seva Hi Prabhu Seva”: ICAR DG Inaugurates Training to Build Karmayogis for Vikshit Bharat

The programme encourages officials to find joy and purpose in their work while strengthening citizen-centric service delivery. It also highlights agriculture’s vital role in achieving India’s development goals by 2047.

On May 14, 2025, the Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR) Director General and Secretary of the Department of Agricultural Research and Education (DARE), Dr. M.L. Jat, inaugurated a training programme for Deputy Secretary and Director-level officers from various Ministries and Departments as part of the 'Rashtriya Karmayogi – Large Scale Jan Seva Programme'.

During the event, Dr. Jat highlighted the deeper meaning of the phrase "Jan Seva Hi Prabhu Seva", calling it not just a sentence but a guiding philosophy that captures the heart of public service. He encouraged the participants to embrace this principle in their work to help realise the vision of a developed India by 2047.

“A Vikshit Bharat cannot be achieved without the development of agriculture. All four pillars of Vikshit Bharat are intrinsically aligned with agriculture. We are fortunate to contribute to this sector, directly supporting the Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modiji’s vision of a developed India,” he said.

Dr. Jat stressed the need for fostering respect, a shared vision, and teamwork within organizations. He said becoming a true 'Karmayogi' requires more than attending lectures, it begins with respect for others and enjoying one’s work. Only then, he noted, can officials truly connect with the spirit of public service.

Also speaking at the event, Dr. R. C. Agarwal, Deputy Director General (Agricultural Education), shared that ICAR/DARE has been recognized as the top-performing organization under this initiative. He emphasized that beyond knowledge and skills, building strong human connections is crucial for meaningful training. Earlier, Dr. S. K. Sharma, Assistant Director General (HRD), welcomed participants and highlighted the goals and achievements of the programme.

The Rashtriya Karmayogi – Large Scale Jan Seva Programme, launched by the Capacity Building Commission on 12th September 2024, aims to reignite the values of public service among officials, improve their job satisfaction, and enhance citizen-focused service delivery through better coordination and purpose-driven action.
