The final draft of Working Group III's contribution to the IPCC's Sixth Assessment Report (AR6) on climate change has been delivered to countries by the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC).

The "Summary for Policymakers" final draft has also been given to countries for additional assessment. This is one of the last steps in the process before IPCC member nations vote on the report in a two-week plenary next year.

Climate Change 2021: The Physical Science Basis The report written by Working group III is out now. The paper combines many lines of evidence from paleoclimate, observations, process knowledge, and global and regional climate simulations to address the most up-to-date physical understanding of the climate system and climate change.

“Our scientists have worked tirelessly to deliver this report through a robust assessment of scientific evidence. The report will inform policymakers worldwide about pathways to solutions and opportunities available to us to tackle climate change,” said Jim Skea, Co-Chair of Working Group III.

This review provides the governments with a chance to check whether the “Summary for policymakers” reflects the underlying evidence laid out in the Working Group III report.

Working Group III is in charge of examining climate change mitigation — reactions and solutions to the threat of severe climate change by lowering greenhouse gas emissions and improving sinks for the gases that cause global warming.

Working Group III is also organizing a series of webinars with government officials on key sections of the report throughout the government assessment of the Summary for Policymakers to enlighten them as they write their written comments. This will also assist authors in identifying difficulties and receiving informal government input.

The authors will discuss the report's major themes and how they are presented in the Summary for Policymakers, including in figures, as well as how the summarized aspects are based on the full underlying evaluation.
