Update on IRCTC Ticket Booking: Railway passengers can now book additional tickets! Indian Railways has decided to increase the ticket booking limit to make things easier for passengers. According to a statement released by the Ministry of Railways, the national transporter has increased the limit of ticket booking from six to twelve tickets per month by a user ID that is not linked to Aadhaar and has also increased the limit of ticket booking from twelve to twenty-four tickets per month by a user ID that is linked to Aadhaar and that one of the rail passengers in the ticket to be booked is verifiable through Aadhaar.
How many tickets can be booked?
According to the Railway Ministry, a passenger can book a maximum of six tickets in a month online on the official IRCTC website or app using a user ID that is not Aadhaar linked, and a maximum of 12 tickets in a month using a user ID that is Aadhaar linked and that one of the commuters in the railway ticket to be booked is verifiable through Aadhaar using a user ID that is Aadhaar linked.
Meanwhile, according to an RTI request, Indian Railways has canceled nearly 9,000 train trips this year, with more than 1,900 cancellations owing to coal traffic in the last three months. According to the national transporter, 6,995 train services were canceled owing to maintenance or construction, and 1,934 train services were canceled due to coal movement from March to May.
Due to a severe power deficit, Indian Railways has been compelled to prioritize the transportation of coal rakes over passenger train services, according to authorities quoted in a PTI article. According to them, Indian Railways is on track to deliver 58 supercritical and 68 essential projects totaling over Rs 1,15,000 crore in the coming years.
As a result, maintenance and construction projects are prioritized across the railway network. However, this has had a significant impact on passenger mobility across the country, particularly during the summer months.
