India denounced all reports that were recently being spread on the media about India being one of the signatories of the Action agenda on Sustainable Agriculture and decreed them as false and factually wrong at the COP26 climate meeting in Glasgow on Tuesday.
This misunderstanding was cleared up by Gaurav Khare the official spokesperson of the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change, he is also a part of the Indian delegation at the COP26 summit.
He told the reporters on Tuesday that "Certain media reports have stated that India has signed the COP26 Action Agenda on Sustainable Agriculture at the ongoing Climate summit at Glasgow. It is clarified that such statements are baseless and factually incorrect,”
The Sustainable Agriculture Policy Action Agenda for the Transition to Sustainable Agriculture and Global Action Agenda for Agriculture Innovation' was billed as a highlight of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change's 26th Conference of Parties (COP26) over the weekend (UNFCCC).
"According to certain media sources, India has signed the COP26 Action Agenda on Sustainable Agriculture at the present Climate Summit in Glasgow." According to Gaurav Khare, official spokesperson for the Ministry of Environment, Forests, and Climate Change, who is part of the Indian team at the COP26 session, such assertions are false and factually inaccurate.
The statement issued also stated that "Several steps are being taken to ensure that Indian agriculture remains on the path of sustainability,".
It also stated that National Mission for Sustainable Agriculture (NMSA) is one of the Missions within the National Action Plan on Climate Change (NAPCC) that is operational in the country to deal with the issue of climate change.
The mission aims to evolve and implement strategies to make Indian agriculture more resilient to the changing climate. Due to the presence of this already holistic sustainable agriculture plan that is already there which is in fact tailor-made for India did not need to sign the sustainable agriculture agenda and risk India’s compromise Indian Agriculture for global gains.
