In a significant effort to enhance agricultural cooperation, Governor Ronaldo Caiado of the State of Goiás, Brazil, met with Bhagirath Choudhary, Minister of State for Agriculture and Farmers' Welfare, at Krishi Bhawan in New Delhi on February 14, 2025. The high-level meeting focused on strengthening bilateral ties between India and Brazil, with a particular emphasis on trade and collaboration in sugarcane, ethanol, pulses, research and development, innovation, and digital agriculture.
During the discussions, Bhagirath Choudhary highlighted the strong and multifaceted relationship shared by the two nations at both bilateral and multilateral levels. He emphasized that the Governor's visit would help advance existing initiatives and unlock new opportunities for cooperation. Both countries aim to boost agricultural productivity, promote food security, and enhance the welfare of their citizens through knowledge sharing and technology-driven advancements.
Governor Ronaldo Caiado acknowledged the deep agricultural ties between India and the State of Goias, noting the similarities in their agricultural landscapes and climates. He stressed that these commonalities create opportunities for mutual collaboration, particularly in the exchange of knowledge, advanced farming technologies, and capacity-building initiatives. By leveraging these synergies, both nations can enhance their agricultural capabilities and drive sustainable growth in the sector.
The meeting also included discussions on India's efforts in modernizing agriculture. Ajeet Kumar Sahu, Joint Secretary (International Cooperation), provided insights into key government initiatives such as crop insurance, agriculture credit, and the development of Digital Public Infrastructure (DPI) in the sector. These initiatives aim to create a more resilient and technologically advanced agricultural framework, benefiting both small and large-scale farmers.
The Brazilian delegation comprised high-ranking officials from the State of Goias, along with industry representatives, while the Indian side included senior officials from the Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare.
The meeting underscored the shared vision of both nations to strengthen agricultural partnerships, explore innovative solutions, and enhance trade opportunities.
