The weather department forecasted two spells of rainfall & snowfall over several regions of North India this week as a result of two western disturbances (WD) prevailing in the region.

According to a bulletin issued by the India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Sunday morning, a fresh feeble western disturbance will cause isolated to scattered light rainfall and snowfall over Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand on February 15 and 16.

From February 17 to 20, another western disturbance is predicted to deliver scattered to fairly widespread light rainfall and snowfall across the western Himalayan area as well as light isolated to scattered rainfall over the plains of northwest India, according to the advisory.

The IMD also predicts a 2 to 4 degree Celsius rise in low temperatures throughout most parts of northwest India during the next four days. Furthermore, shallow to moderate fog conditions throughout night and morning hours are extremely possible in isolated areas of Punjab and Haryana over the next 48 hours.

The IMD also stated that isolated thunderstorms are very likely to continue over south Tamil Nadu-Puducherry-Karaikal and south Kerala-Mahe over the next 24 hours, accompanied by heavy rainfall at isolated locations over south Tamil Nadu and south Kerala as strong north-easterly winds prevail over coastal Tamil Nadu in lower tropospheric levels.

IMD Alerts:

A cyclonic circulation exists over Maldives Area and a trough extends from this cyclonic circulation to north coastal Karnataka, with strong northeasterly winds dominating in the lower tropospheric levels across coastal Tamil Nadu. Under their influence, isolated thunderstorms are very likely to persist across south Tamil Nadu-Puducherry-Karaikal and south Kerala-Mahe over the next 24 hours, accompanied by heavy rainfall in isolated locations over south Tamil Nadu and south Kerala.

Under the influence of a fresh feeble Western Disturbance, isolated to scattered light rainfall/snowfall is very likely across Jammu-Kashmir-Ladakh-Gilgit-Baltistan and Muzaffarabad from the 13th to the 16th of February 2022, and over Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand on the 15th and 16th.

From the 17th to the 20th of February 2022, under the influence of another Western Disturbance, scattered to fairly widespread light rainfall/snowfall is very likely across Western Himalayan Region, and light isolated to scattered rainfall over the plains of northwest India.
