Some portions of Delhi saw light drizzle with high winds on Monday evening, providing some relief from the blazing heat. At the same time, the India Meteorological Department has stated that the situation in Delhi will not improve in the next 2-3 days. The temperature is expected to stay over 40 degrees Celsius in this area.
The Meteorological Department has also issued a warning that there would be no clouds in the sky in Delhi and the surrounding areas from April 26 to April 28, resulting in strong sunlight. Uttar Pradesh, Punjab, and Haryana will continue to have scorching weather. IMD has also issued a heat advisory for the day, urging people to stay alert.
By Thursday, the temperature is expected to reach 44 degrees Celsius. A heatwave warning has been issued for the national capital, which will begin on April 28. For weather warnings, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) uses four-color codes: green (no action required), yellow (watch and remain updated), orange (be prepared), and red (be prepared) (take action).
On Monday, the highest temperature in several districts of the national capital was above 42 degrees Celsius, with Sports Complex being the warmest location in the city at 43.1 degrees Celsius, according to news agency PTI.
From April 28, another Western Disturbance is expected to hit Northwest India. If it is effective, light rain with thunder and lightning may follow. On Tuesday, the highest temperature in Safdarjung, Delhi, is forecast to be around 42 degrees Celsius, while it will be around 44 degrees in other areas of the city.
The maximum temperature in neighbouring Gurugram, which reached 42.4 degrees Celsius on Monday, four degrees above average, is expected to rise during the week and reach 46 degrees Celsius by the end of the week.
Meanwhile, the IMD predicts that light to moderate rain may fall in isolated areas across Assam, Meghalaya, and Arunachal Pradesh over the next 24 hours. On the other hand, isolated areas of Northeast India, Sikkim, Kerala, South Coastal Karnataka, and Interior Tamil Nadu may have light to moderate rain.
Isolated light rain is likely across the Andaman and Nicobar Islands, Andhra Pradesh's north coast, Maharashtra's south coast, Marathwada, and the Western Himalayas.
Isolated portions of Gujarat, Bihar, North Madhya Maharashtra, Jharkhand, Interior Odisha, Rajasthan, and South Uttar Pradesh may experience heat waves.
