Over the next few days, several areas of east and central India are expected to see heavy to very heavy rainfall, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD).
IMD reports that a Low-Pressure Area is present over the Northeast Bay of Bengal and the surrounding area and that it would likely concentrate into a Depression by the morning of August 19th.
As a result, extremely heavy rainfall is expected throughout east-central India over the next three days.
According to the weather department's weather report, there is a chance of isolated heavy to very heavy rain in West Bengal, Sikkim, Vidarbha, Jharkhand, and Odisha on August 19, August 20, in East Madhya Pradesh, and on August 21, and on August 22, in West Madhya Pradesh. Over the Northwestern, it is also likely to rain heavily.
Rainfall Prediction in Eastern India:
Up till August 20, Assam, Meghalaya, Mizoram, and Nagaland in the northeast are likely to have periodic rains followed by thunderstorms or lightning.
In addition, the Peninsula's southern regions will likely continue to have moderate rainfall during the following five days. While the eastern end of the monsoon trough is predicted to be along or south of the normal position during this time, the western end is expected to move to the north of the normal position starting on August 19 and remain there for the next two to three days.
Over West Bengal and Sikkim on August 19, over Vidarbha, Jharkhand, and Odisha on August 20, over East Madhya Pradesh on August 21, and over West Madhya Pradesh on August 22, isolated heavy to very heavy rainfall is likely. On August 19, over north Odisha, on August 20, over north Chhattisgarh, on August 20, over east Madhya Pradesh, and on August 21, over west Madhya Pradesh, isolated extremely heavy rainfall is predicted. Meanwhile, rain is also forecast in western India.
Rainfall Predictions in Western India:
The MeT Department forecast that there would be "fairly widespread/widespread light/moderate rainfall with isolated heavy falls and thunderstorm/lightning very likely over West Rajasthan & Gujarat State on August 18 & 22; East Rajasthan and Konkan & Goa during August 20 & 22; and over ghat areas of Madhya Maharashtra on August 21 & 22." On August 21 and 22, there were scattered, very heavy rains throughout eastern Rajasthan.
Rainfall Predictions in Northern India:
The Northwestern Himalayan region and the northern plains are also likely to receive heavy rainfall. According to the weather service, "fairly widespread/widespread light to moderate rainfall with isolated heavy falls and thunderstorm/lightning very likely over Jammu and Kashmir and Punjab on August 20; Uttarakhand on August 19 and 20; Himachal Pradesh and West Uttar Pradesh during August 19 and 21; south Haryana on August 21; and over East Uttar Pradesh on August 19 and 20."
