Starting on Tuesday, May 24, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) forecasted a wet spell over Northwest and East India for the next two days, predicting widespread to light rainfall with isolated thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds over Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, and Uttarakhand.
From Tuesday onwards, the intensity of the Western disturbance is expected to decrease over Northwest India.
"Southwest Monsoon over some parts of Southwest Arabian Sea, some more areas of Southeast Arabian Sea, Maldives and Comorin area, South & East-central Bay of Bengal, and some parts of Northeast Bay of Bengal during next 48 hours," according to the IMD.
Meanwhile, Delhi experienced its coldest day in May in 18 years on Tuesday. Snowfall also forced the cancellation of the Char Dham Yatra.
On Monday, May 23, most northern and northeastern states had the second round of heavy rain and thunderstorms with lightning. According to the IMD, heatwaves are not expected to hit the region for another few days.
TWC predicted that strong winds and rain would continue on Tuesday, with "scattered rain and thunderstorms probable over Assam, Meghalaya, Sikkim, West Bengal, Bihar, Uttar Pradesh, Punjab, Haryana, Delhi, and east Madhya Pradesh."
Monday brought rain, thunderstorms, and strong gusts to several states. Although this provided much-needed relief from the extreme heat, it also caused flooding, power outages, and continuous blackouts in Delhi-NCR, causing aircraft delays.
In numerous locations, trees were also uprooted, causing road blockages and vehicle damage. However, HR Biswas, the Director of the Met Centre in Bhubaneswar, informed news agency ANI that the thunderstorms will fade away and temperatures will increase again.
"Thunderstorms and lightning would primarily affect North Odisha and coastal regions," he said.
On Tuesday, the maximum temperature forecast for Uttar Pradesh was 36 degrees Celsius. Temperatures in Noida are expected to reach 33 degrees Celsius, 36 degrees Celsius in Jhansi and Banda, 32 degrees Celsius in Lucknow, and 24-26 degrees Celsius at night.
TWC projected a maximum of 33 degrees Celsius and a minimum of 24 degrees Celsius in Haryana's Gurgaon.
Heatwave Warnings in These States:
Rajasthan, on the other hand, will continue to experience heatwaves, with the peak temperatures reaching 42 degrees Celsius in Jaisalmer and 38 degrees Celsius in Jaipur on Tuesday.
"During the following five days, no heatwave conditions are predicted to develop over any regions of the country except for West Rajasthan, where isolated heatwave conditions are possible on May 26 and 27," the IMD stated.
