IMD Issues Red Alert for Goa; Heavy Rainfall to Continue for Next 24 hours; Schools Closed

An official added that because of the weather warning, the state government has decided to close all schools for pupils up to Class 8 for the upcoming two days. According to reports, the IMD has predicted extremely heavy rain to pour across Goa on Friday and very heavy rain to hit on July 9 and 10.

Goa is expected to see extremely heavy rain over the next 24 hours, as well as very heavy showers through July 10. The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) issued a red signal on Thursday. Shailesh Sinai Zingde, the state's director of education, issued a circular on Thursday announcing a two-day holiday for pupils up to Class 8. It was announced that pupils in Classes 9 through 12 will attend regular classes.

The general public is asked to exercise caution and avoid staying in or driving in flooded areas, landslide-prone areas, or locations with fragile trees or structures. Get away from regions that experience water logging issues, the release advised.

People have been urged to use caution when working with electricity and to stay off of bodies of water, the statement stated. A few highways and bridges in the coastal state remained underwater as a result of the constant rain, which had an impact on some areas' normal life.

Altone D'Costa, a Quepem MLA, claimed that heavy rains on Wednesday night caused an anganwadi's roof to collapse. He added that alternative plans have been established for pupils to continue their studies and that there are at least 30 students enrolled in the Anganwadi.
