IMD Issues Red Alert for Extremely Heavy Rainfall in These States

Heavy to very heavy rainfall, with extremely heavy rains at isolated locations, is expected over Vidarbha, Odisha, Gujarat Region, Madhya Maharashtra ghat areas, and Konkan & Goa. Heavy to very heavy rainfall is expected in isolated locations across East Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Saurashtra & Kutch, Marathwada, Telangana, and Coastal & South Interior Karnataka.

Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) said that intense wet spells will continue for the next 2-3 days over Odisha, Chhattisgarh, Vidharbha, Gujarat, Konkan and Goa, and ghat areas of Madhya Maharashtra and Telangana.

The IMD has issued a red alert for parts of Maharashtra, the Gujarat Region, and Odisha for August 9. While Saurashtra and Kutch have been placed on orange alert, East Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Telangana, and Karnataka have not.

Heavy to very heavy rainfall, with extremely heavy rains at isolated locations, is expected over Vidarbha, Odisha, Gujarat Region, Madhya Maharashtra ghat areas, and Konkan & Goa. Heavy to very heavy rainfall is expected in isolated locations across East Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Saurashtra & Kutch, Marathwada, Telangana, and Coastal & South Interior Karnataka.

Heavy rain is also expected in isolated locations across southeast Rajasthan, West Madhya Pradesh, Gangetic West Bengal, Assam and Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram and Tripura, Coastal Andhra Pradesh and Yanam, North Interior Karnataka and Kerala, and Mahe.

Thunderstorms with lightning and gusty winds (up to 40-50 kmph) are very likely in isolated areas across the Andaman and Nicobar Islands, Rayalaseema, and Rajasthan.

Squally winds of 45-55kmph with gusts up to 65kmph are expected over the north Bay of Bengal along and off the coasts of Odisha and West Bengal, the central and adjoining south Bay of Bengal, and the coasts of North Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, the Comorin area, and east Sri Lanka. Squally weather with wind speeds of 40-50kmph gusting to 60kmph is expected over the Andaman Sea.

Squally winds of 45-55 kmph with gusts up to 65 kmph are also expected over much of the central Arabian Sea and the adjoining southwest and the southeast Arabian Sea. As a result, fishermen are advised not to venture too far into these seas.

Isolated very heavy rainfall is expected over West Madhya Pradesh from August 10 to 12, East Madhya Pradesh from August 9 to 12, Chhattisgarh from August 9 to 11, Vidarbha on August 10 and 11, Gujarat Region on August 9 and 11, Saurashtra & Kutch on August 9 and 11, and over ghat areas of Madhya Maharashtra, Konkan, and Goa on August 11. On August 9 and 10, isolated very heavy rainfall is expected over Odisha. Isolated heavy rain is also expected in Uttarakhand on August 10 and East Rajasthan on August 12.
