IMD Issues Extremely Heavy Rainfall Alert for These States for the Next 5 Days

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued very heavy rainfall alert for some parts of Tamil Nadu and Puducherry during the next five days till November 28.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a severe rain warning for areas of Tamil Nadu and Puducherry for the next five days till November 28. 

On Wednesday (November 24, 2021), IMD reported that a cyclonic circulation is being detected in the Bay of Bengal, with a cyclonic circulation expected to form over the southwest Bay of Bengal during the next 24 hours. 

"A cyclonic circulation extends up to mid-tropospheric levels across the southwest and abutting the southeast Bay of Bengal." A Low Pressure Area is expected to form over the southwest Bay of Bengal over the next 24 hours as a result of its effect. The storm is expected to continue west-northwestward towards Sri Lanka and the south Tamil Nadu coast, according to the Met Office's most latest bulletin. 

"Isolated heavy to very heavy rainfall is quite possible over Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and Karaikal from November 24 to 28," the weather department stated. 

On November 27 and 28, the IMD predicts "heavy to very heavy rainfall" for south coastal  Andhra Pradesh, Yanam, and Rayalaseema. 

"Isolated heavy rainfall is also very likely over south coastal Andhra Pradesh and Yanam on November 26 and isolated heavy to very heavy rainfall is also very likely over south coastal Andhra Pradesh, Yanam, and Rayalaseema on November 27 and 28," the IMD said. 

Meanwhile, the meteorological department predicts light to moderate rain in several parts of Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, and other states during the next five days. 

"Light to moderate scattered/fairly widespread rainfall is highly expected over Coastal Andhra Pradesh and Yanam, Rayalaseema, South Interior Karnataka, Keral, Mahe, Tamilnadu, Puducherry, and Karaikal over the next 5 days," the IMD said. 

Fishermen are advised not venture into these areas for the next few days.
