IMD Forecasts Heavy to Very Heavy Rainfall Across Several States

IMD has forecasted heavy to very heavy rainfall across several states, including Jharkhand, Chhattisgarh, Madhya Pradesh, and Uttar Pradesh. Squally winds are also expected in parts of Chhattisgarh, Uttar Pradesh, and Jharkhand.

India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued warnings for heavy to very heavy rainfall in parts of Jharkhand, Chhattisgarh, East Madhya Pradesh, and Odisha. Isolated areas in East Uttar Pradesh, Gangetic West Bengal, and Bihar are also expected to experience significant rainfall.

The deep depression over Gangetic West Bengal and Jharkhand weakened into a depression and moved west-northwest, now centered over Northeast Chhattisgarh and nearby areas. The system is expected to weaken into a Well-Marked Low-Pressure Area over the next 12 hours as it continues its path across northern Chhattisgarh, southern Uttar Pradesh, and northeast Madhya Pradesh.

Meanwhile, the monsoon trough shows a deviation, with its western end lying north of its usual position and the eastern end situated further south.

Central India

Light to moderate rainfall is expected to be scattered to fairly widespread across Madhya Pradesh, Vidarbha, and Chhattisgarh throughout the week. North Madhya Pradesh is likely to witness isolated very heavy rainfall on September 17, while heavy rainfall is expected in Northwest Madhya Pradesh on September 18 and in North Chhattisgarh on September 17.

Northwest India

Uttarakhand, Uttar Pradesh, and East Rajasthan will experience light to moderate rainfall on September 17 and 18, with isolated heavy downpours predicted for Southeast Uttar Pradesh on the same dates. Additional rainfall is expected over Haryana and East Rajasthan on September 18, while scattered light rain will persist in the region throughout the following days.

East and Northeast India

Fairly widespread light to moderate rainfall is likely across the Andaman & Nicobar Islands, East India, and Northeast India during the week. Heavy rainfall is anticipated in the Andaman & Nicobar Islands between September 17 and 20, as well as in Bihar and Jharkhand on September 17. Assam and Meghalaya are forecasted to receive heavy showers on September 19, with isolated rainfall in Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, and Tripura on September 18 and 19.

West and South India

In the West and South Peninsular regions, Konkan & Goa can expect widespread light to moderate rainfall. Other areas in these regions may see scattered light to moderate rain over the course of the week.

Squally winds with speeds ranging from 40-50 kmph, gusting up to 60 kmph, are predicted over North Chhattisgarh, Southeast Uttar Pradesh, and Jharkhand until the evening of September 17, with a decrease in intensity afterward.

With these weather patterns in place, residents in the affected regions are advised to stay alert and take necessary precautions to ensure safety.
