While several parts of north India have not reported low temperatures in comparison to previous week, the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) is concerned that certain parts of Uttar Pradesh may see a cold wave.
On the other hand, North-West India, East and North East India might experience rainfall.
According to an IMD press release released on Wednesday, there is a chance of widespread light/moderate rain/snowfall in the Western Himalayan region till February 4. Simultaneously, isolated hailstorms are possible in Himachal Pradesh today and Uttarakhand on February 3 and 4. Apart from that, Himachal Pradesh may experience isolated heavy rain/snowfall on February 3. In Uttarakhand too, this situation can be ready on February 3 and 4.
The IMD forecasted moderate rain and thundershowers in the next few hours for Delhi-NCR (Hindon, Loni Dehat, Ghaziabad, Noida, Greater Noida and Gurugram) and its surrounding areas on Thursday. According to the department, the wind will blow at a speed of 20-30 kmph in the area.
Surendra Paul, an IMD official, stated that there is a yellow alert for heavy snowfall in the higher areas of Himachal Pradesh, including Chamba, Spiti, Kullu, and Shimla. On Wednesday, February 2, an alert was issued indicating that the next 48 hours will be extremely cold with heavy snowfall.
The department stated that there is a chance of light to moderate rain across Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, Delhi, and Uttar Pradesh on February 3 and 4. Light or moderate rain with thunder and showers may occur in Bihar and Jharkhand today.
Meanwhile, Srinagar, the summer capital of Jammu and Kashmir, reported a low of minus 1.9 degrees Celsius on Wednesday, up from 1.8 degrees Celsius the previous night, according to officials.
According to the Meteorological Department, rain or snowfall is possible for two days beginning Wednesday and at some places on Friday. Kashmir is now in the grip of 20-day 'Chillai-Khurd,' which began on Monday following the end of a 40-day period of severe cold 'Chillai-Kalan.'
