Indian Meteorological Department (IMD), a weather watchdog, issued a red signal for extremely heavy rain in eastern Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand. While the red alert has been in effect for two days in eastern UP, the people of Uttarakhand have only had the same warning in effect for one day.
IMD warned of "Heavy to very heavy rain in a few areas with extremely heavy rain at isolated places" in its red signal for Uttarakhand and eastern UP. Additionally, it issued a warning of thunderstorms and lightning in remote areas of eastern Uttar Pradesh.
Rain alert in Delhi
The weather department also issued a day-long orange warning for Delhi and Haryana as well as a 3-day orange alert for Himachal Pradesh. The department cautioned that isolated locations are expected to experience strong to extremely heavy rain as well as thunderstorms and lightning.
Additionally, IMD issued a 2-day notice for eastern Rajasthan from June 30 to July 1 and a 3-day orange alert for western UP from June 29 to July 2. "Heavy to very heavy rain and thunderstorm/lightning accompanied by gusty winds (speed 30-40 kmph) at isolated places," read the advisory for eastern Rajasthan.
As the Met Department predicted further rain in the sub-Himalayan district, huge portions of West Bengal's Jalpaiguri district have experienced serious waterlogging as a result of nonstop rain.
Weather Update for Goa:
One to three centimeters of rain were recorded at the remaining rain gauge locations around Goa.
This season, the state average rainfall in Goa was 754 mm, which is 13% less than average. When compared to the 40mm of rain that was observed on June 29, 2021, which was 11% over average.
Residents have been advised to keep away from unstable trees, buildings, and regions that are susceptible to landslides or rock falls during periods of severe rainfall or flood-like conditions. Avoiding driving through flooded regions and according to traffic advisories are two of the suggestions given.
Additionally, people are advised to avoid visiting places that frequently experience water logging issues and to use electricity safely.
Up till July 1, squally weather with winds gusting to 60 kmph and reaching 40 to 50 kmph is anticipated to be present on and off the south Maharashtra-Goa coast. Between Vengurla and Vasco, high waves in the range of 3-3.5m are anticipated to occur along Goa's coastline. Therefore, it is advisable that fishermen stay away from the south Maharashtra-Goa coast during this time.
Operators of beach sports have also received a warning from the IMD to control operations or cease operations. The IMD recommended that tourists not be allowed to swim in the sea when there are rough conditions.
