IMD Agromet Advisory for Farmers in Punjab and Haryana

Under the Gramin Krishi Mausam Sewa (GKMS) scheme, the Agrometeorological Advisory Service (AAS) of the India Meteorological Department (IMD), Ministry of Earth Sciences (MoES), works to gather and organize climate/weather, soil and crop information and combine it with weather forecast to help farmers make correct decisions.

Farmers in each Agro Climatic Zone are given agromet advice based on weather forecasts through a network of 130 Agro-Met Field Units (AMFUs) that are now in operation (ACZ). Under the GKMS program, these agromet warnings are created and sent by AMFUs twice a week (on Tuesday and Friday) to 690 districts.

Crop Information and Agromet Advisories

Minimum Temperature Forecast of Haryana and Punjab:

Shallow to moderate fog likely at isolated places in the state. No big changes in minimum temperatures will be there in the next 3 days.

General Agromet Advisory (from 29.11.2022- 01.12.2022):

Farmers are recommended to complete the seeding of mustard crop using university recognized varieties during this timeframe due to the probability of dry weather conditions at this time. Additionally, they recommended irrigating early-planted mustard crops according to necessity.

Crop Advisories and Plant Protection from 29.11.2022- 01.12.2022

Wheat:

Farmers are encouraged to finish the timely seeding of wheat crop due to the potential of dry weather conditions throughout the timeframe. In Punjab farmers are advised to start sowing wheat cultivars PBW771 and PBW752 under the irrigated condition.

Mustard:

Farmers are recommended to apply irrigation to the mustard crop due to the potential of dry weather. Use a fungicide spray, such as Bavistin, to combat stem rot infections. Whereas considering Punjab condition transplanting of gobhi sarson and African sarson PC 6 is more profitable during the period than direct sowing.

Sugarcane:

If the top borer damage surpasses 5% level, manage the attack by applying 10 kg of Ferterra 0.4 GR or 12 kg of Furadan/Diafuran/Furacarb/Fury 3G (carbofuran) per acre at the base of shoots. Immediately raise the soil a little bit and light irrigate the crop.

Vegetable: -

• Weekly irrigation of vegetable crops.

• Spray the crop with 250 ml of Folicur, 750 g of Indofil M-45, or 250 litres of water per acre every 10 days to prevent fruit rot and dieback in chilli.

• Spray 80 cc Coragen 18.5 SC or 80 g Proclaim 5SG in 100-125 litres of water per acre to check fruit and combat borer attacks on brinjal.

• For the management of late blight of tomato, spray 600 g Indofil M-45 mixed with 200 litres of water per acre when weather become clear.

Fruits: -

• It is a very good time to grow evergreen plants like citrus, guava, mango, litchi, sapota, jamun, bael, amla, and others. Remove and bury the fruit fly-infested guava fruits on a regular basis.

• Congress grass, cannabis, and other large weeds that are present in and around orchards should be pulled because this time of year makes them very simple to uproot.

• It is time to manage Phytophthora (gummosis) in citrus orchards; use the suggested procedures.

Live Stock Specific Advisory

Animal Husbandry:

• Animals should be kept in sheds due to changing weather conditions, such as cold weather. To prevent house fly or other pest invasion, keep the area surrounding the animal shed clean.

• By practicing good hygiene and using a teat dip made of a solution of 75 ml povidone iodine and 25 ml glycerine, you may prevent mastitis in animal udders.

• Balanced ration is very crucial to give energy to the animals for daily needs.
