In a key push towards building a digitally skilled fisheries workforce, Union Minister Rajiv Ranjan Singh chaired a review meeting on the iGOT Karmayogi platform on August 1 at Krishi Bhawan, New Delhi. The platform, part of Mission Karmayogi, is aimed at transforming capacity building among government personnel, and the Department of Fisheries is making rapid progress in its implementation.

Ajay Srivastava, Economic Adviser at the Ministry of Fisheries, Animal Husbandry and Dairying, presented insights into user engagement, platform feedback, and analytics. According to the ministry, 100% onboarding has already been achieved at the headquarters level, while 85% of subordinate offices are also on board. The remaining coverage is expected to be completed soon.

Minister Singh appreciated the progress and directed that full coverage be achieved at the earliest. He noted the feedback received during the session and assured that key suggestions would be shared with the Prime Minister. He also instructed officials to send a detailed note on the meeting’s outcomes to the Cabinet Secretariat, Capacity Building Commission, and the Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT).

Key suggestions included improving the mobile app’s usability, introducing advanced and technical modules in fisheries and aquaculture, and adopting a hybrid learning approach that blends online and offline formats for better field-level application.

Union Minister emphasized the importance of shared learning and called for monthly departmental knowledge-sharing sessions to be institutionalized. Secretary Dr. Abhilaksh Likhi highlighted the long-term impact of structured digital training and suggested that future course designs should also address the needs of exporters, cooperatives, and fisheries-based enterprises to ensure sector-wide benefits.

The meeting reinforced the department’s commitment to creating a future-ready, citizen-centric fisheries administration through the iGOT Karmayogi platform. Minister of State Prof. S.P. Singh Baghel, Minister of State George Kurian, Secretary (Fisheries) Dr. Abhilaksh Likhi, and other senior officials were present during the session.
