Indian Agricultural Research Institute (ICAR-IARI), Pusa Campus, New Delhi, has announced openings for two positions within its Division of Plant Physiology. These positions are for a Senior Research Fellow (SRF) and a Young Professional II (YP II) under an ICAR-funded project titled “Enhancing climate resilience and ensuring food security with genome editing tools”.

This project, overseen by Dr. Lekshmy Sathee, focuses on the genome editing of rice to improve nutrient use efficiency (NUE). The institute invites applications from qualified and interested candidates to join these positions.

The SRF position, offering a monthly stipend of ₹31,000 plus HRA for the first two years and ₹35,000 plus HRA in the third year, is open to candidates with a master’s degree in fields such as Biotechnology, Plant Physiology, Plant Biochemistry, Genetics & Plant Breeding, Botany, or any relevant life sciences discipline. Applicants should have a four- or five-year bachelor’s degree. Those with a three-year bachelor’s degree and two-year master’s degree must have NET/GATE qualifications and two years of research experience. Experience in molecular techniques, genetic transformation of crops, and scientific writing is highly desirable.

The YP II position, with a fixed monthly salary of ₹42,000, is available to postgraduates in similar fields or graduates in relevant Agricultural Sciences, Engineering, or Technology. The age limit for this role is between 21 and 45 years. Qualifications that are desired are similar to those of the SRF and emphasize expertise in genome editing and molecular procedures.

The application deadline is 21 days from the job posting (June 3, 2024) on the ICAR-IARI Contractual Job Web Portal. The engagement is purely contractual, time-bound, and non-regular, aligning with the project’s duration, initially set for up to 12 months.

This opportunity provides a significant platform for researchers to contribute to crucial agricultural advancements in climate resilience and food security.
