ICAR-CRIJAF Organized Training on ‘Designing & Making of Customised Jute Bags’

The ICAR-Central Research Institute for Jute and Allied Fibres, Barrackpore, West Bengal organized a week-long skill development program on “Designing and Making of Customised Jute Bags” for farm women under DST SEED sponsored project on Technological and economic empowerment of SC farm families through jute based farming and value addition, from November 24 to December 1, 2021.

The ICAR-Central Research Institute for Jute and Allied Fibres, Barrackpore, West Bengal organized a week-long skill development program on “Designing and Making of Customised Jute Bags” for farm women under DST SEED sponsored project on Technological and economic empowerment of SC farm families through jute based farming and value addition, from November 24 to December 1, 2021.

The objective of the Programme:

The main objective of the program was to enhance the skill of farm women in jute bag making which will help them to augment their off-farm income.

A group of 12 farm women from Basudebpur village, Barrackpore 1 block, North 24 Parganas had participated in the training program.

The training was basic in nature in which the trainees were imparted skill on jute bag and office folder making. Sima Saha Mallick, the farm women group leader expressed greater satisfaction and had promised to lead the group towards jute-based entrepreneurial activities.

The trainees experienced that this training has developed confidence in designing and making jute bags. Showcasing of all the products made by the trainees was arranged in the valedictory function on 1st of Dec, 2021. 

On this occasion, Dr. Gouranga Kar, Director, ICAR-CRIJAF applauded all the trainees for their successful participation in the program. He also distributed the certificate of participation to the trainees in the valedictory function.

Dr. Kar told that ICAR-CRIJAF is continuously making efforts to increase the off-farm income of farm women. In that direction, such initiatives will establish a value chain and marketing network of jute-based diversified products for the economic empowerment of SHG members engaged in this venture.

He also ensured that in the future also their skill will be further fine-tuned to venture into broader markets in this sector targeting the customers of different categories. He also congratulated the team of scientists and the trainer for the successful completion of the training.
