In a significant development for the aquaculture sector, the ICAR-Central Institute of Fisheries Education (ICAR-CIFE), Mumbai, has entered into a Memorandum of Agreement (MoA) with M.M. Fish Seed Cultivation Pvt. Ltd., Bilaspur, Chhattisgarh. The agreement, signed on February 06, 2025, at ICAR-CIFE, paves the way for the commercialization of ‘ICAR-CIFE-Pangas-Shakti,’ an advanced grow-out feed formulated specifically for freshwater catfish, Pangasianodon hypophthalmus.

Dr. Ravishankar C.N., Director and Vice-Chancellor of ICAR-CIFE, Mumbai, and Shukdeb Mandal, Director of M.M. Fish Seed Cultivation Pvt. Ltd., officially signed the MoA, which will remain in effect for five years on a non-exclusive basis.

This partnership marks a crucial step in making high-quality, scientifically developed feed accessible to fish farmers, enhancing productivity and sustainability in the aquaculture sector.

‘Pangas-Shakti’ has been developed through extensive research by a team of leading scientists, including Prakash Paterkar, Dr. K.N. Mohanta, Dr. Narottam Prasad Sahu, Dr. Renuka V., Dr. Sunil Kumar Nayak, and Dr. Tincy Verghese.

The feed is designed to improve the growth rate, health, and overall yield of Pangasianodon hypophthalmus, a species widely farmed in India due to its high market demand and economic viability.

With the commercialization of this specialized feed, fish farmers across the country stand to benefit from improved fish growth performance and better feed conversion ratios, leading to higher profitability.

This initiative aligns with the government’s vision of promoting sustainable aquaculture practices and ensuring nutritional security.
