In a significant step, ICAR-Central Island Agricultural Research Institute (ICAR-CIARI) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Panchajanya Enterprises, Bengaluru, to improve livestock health. The agreement involves the licensing of DweepTickure, an innovative herbal acaricide formulation. The MoU was formalized at the ICAR-CIARI premises in Sri Vijaya Puram during a signing ceremony officiated by Dr. E.B. Chakurkar, Director of ICAR-CIARI, and M.K. Kamala, CEO of Panchajanya Enterprises.
A team of researchers, including Dr. T. Sujatha, Dr. Jai Sunder, Dr. D. Bhattacharya, Dr. E.B. Chakurkar, and Dr. A.K. De, developed DweepTick, which represents a breakthrough in sustainable pest management. The formulation, eco-friendly and non-toxic, uses herbal extracts infused with herbal oil to effectively combat ticks and repel flies from domestic animals. This innovative approach aligns with the growing demand for sustainable agricultural practices.
Ticks, particularly prevalent in tropical and subtropical regions, pose a severe threat to livestock, with over 80% of the world’s cattle affected. Tick infestations lead to decreased productivity, blood loss, transmission of diseases, and even death, causing substantial economic losses. These parasites act as vectors for various diseases, increasing their impact on livestock health and farmers' livelihoods.
The introduction of DweepTickure offers a game-changing alternative to chemical-based treatments, which often pose environmental and health risks. As a patented herbal acaricide, it holds the potential to significantly improve the health and productivity of cattle and goats while fitting seamlessly into Integrated Pest Management (IPM) strategies.
