The Foundation Year of Indian Agricultural Research Institute (IARI) is April 1. On this day, an eminent scientist or scholar or educationist delivers a Special Invited Lecture. This year, the event will see the elite presence of Professor Rattan Lal, Director, CMSC, OSU, USA & Recipient of World Food Prize 2020. He will deliver the Foundation Day Lecture on “Soil Health and Nutrition-Sensitive Agriculture.”
The chief guest of the event will be Dr. Trilochan Mohapatra, Secretary, DARE & DG, ICAR.
In addition to this, the Foundation Day celebration will witness the launch of “Pusa Samachar” and the licensing of Pusa Basmati 1692, which is the new Basmati rice variety. Apart from this, the celebration will see the felicitation of conscientious staff and awardee school children who took part in different activities during the week-long celebration.
The Foundation Year program will begin at 11:00 am on April 1 at Dr. B. P. Pal Auditorium, IARI, New Delhi.
IARI was founded on April 1, 1905, in Pusa, Bihar. It was originally named Imperial Agricultural Research Institute. Its name was changed to Indian Agricultural Research Institute after independence (1947). The year 1936 witnessed a massive earthquake, which led to the shifting of the institute to Pusa, New Delhi.
IARI is a premier institute dedicated to research, extension, and education in agriculture. It played an instrumental role in the Green Revolution of 1960-70.
