Days after Chandigarh University in Punjab’s Mohali saw a massive uproar, students of Lovely Professional University (LPU) held a protest on the campus on Tuesday late at night after a male student committed suicide in the college.

A suicide note has been recovered from the premises in which the student has mentioned that he committed suicide due to some personal reasons.

According to police, the first-year student of B. Design at LPU hailing from Kerela hanged himself to death inside his hostel room on Tuesday evening, leaving a suicide note behind.

“The student was having some personal issues, as the suicide note suggests,” said the police official in a brief statement issued later.

LPU later posted on its official Twitter account, “LPU is saddened by the unfortunate incident. Initial investigation by the police and the contents of the suicide note point towards personal issues of the deceased. The University is providing full support to the authorities for further investigation. The University mourns the loss of the student and expresses its condolences to the bereaved family.”

The incident comes close to the protests that have been happening at Chandigarh University after a girl student was caught recording ‘objectionable’ videos of her hostel mates and sharing them with her boyfriend. However, the students claimed that the video of the girl students that were made viral led some of the same students to even commit suicide.

While Mohali Police claimed that the girl student who was arrested under the charges of this case, shared a video of only herself with her old boyfriend, a three-member all-women SIT has been formed to take over the case.
