Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath spoke at the three-day exhibition organized at Raj Bhawan premises, about how farmers can double their income by growing medicinal and horticultural crops. He highlighted the abundance of fertile soil and water resources in the state.
“Our horticultural crops have a greater scope than traditional crops when it comes to increasing our farmer’s income,” Yogi stated while speaking to the congregation of progressive farmers at the 54th fruit, vegetable, and flower exhibition.
He gave examples of farmers who managed to garner a net profit of 29 lakhs by cultivation in one hectare. “Horticultural farmers have successful endeavours. The progressive farmers are creating standards higher than traditional farming.” The chief minister said. Yogi has stated that UP meets the food grain needs of 20% of India’s population and has 11% of India’s agricultural land.
“Horticultural crops yield income for 25% of our farmers in the entire agricultural GDP,” Yogi said. Earlier, the chief minister and Governor Anandiben Patel visited the many stalls that had been put up for display during the three-day exhibition organized by the Raj Bhawan. There were many varieties presented, including but not limited to vegetables, flowers, medicinal crops, crops grown via tissue culture, and honey.
A Ram temple imitation made of flowers and a large Shivling was also put up for display. Yogi and Governor Anandiben Patel felicitated 12 progressive farmers for their innovation and creativity in bringing forth modern farming.
The farmers included Madan Pandey, Pushpendra Singh, Surendra Prasad Pathak, Ram Singh, Jai Dev, Amrendra Pratap Singh, Suman Devi, Sudhir Kumar, Isha, Bhagwat Kishore, Lok Raj Maurya and Vishwanath Yadav. The exhibition was also attended by Minister of State Horticulture Dinesh Pratap Singh and senior scientists and officials of the agriculture and horticulture department were present as well.
