This year's expo was particularly noteworthy due to the outstanding performance of a Holstein Friesian (HF) cow belonging to two dairy farmers from Kurukshetra, Haryana. The cow set a new national record by producing 72.39 kilograms of milk in 24 hours, breaking the previous record of 70.4 kilograms per day set at a competition in 2018.
Dairy farming is not just a business for Poras Mehla and Samrat Singh, but a passion that they have dedicated their lives to. The two farmers have a herd of 200 HF and Jersey cows and employ a team of 10 to 15 persons to help manage their farm.
They take great care of their cattle and attribute their success to the hard work and dedication they put into their farming operations, as well as the support of the Dairy Farmers Association Haryana, which promotes dairy culture in the state.
Another impressive performance was that of a Jersey cow owned by a dairy farmer from Noorpur Hakima in Moga, which won first place in the milk yield competition for Jersey cows with a daily yield of 44.505 kilograms. The same farmer's HF cow also placed second in the adult category with a yield of 68.4 kilograms per day.
The dairy farmer, Onkar Arwind, who aspires to become a veterinary doctor, acknowledged that their cows' high yields could not be achieved in the competition due to issues with fodder and weather.
The Annual International Dairy and Agri Expo is a celebration of the dairy industry in India and the hardworking dairy farmers who are dedicated to producing high-quality milk. The setting of a new national record by the HF cow from Kurukshetra is a testament to the efforts of these farmers and their passion for their trade.
