The weather department of India has issued a ‘heavy rainfall alert’ along with a thunderstorm over coastal parts of India and the Northeastern region during the next 24 hours. Moreover, the rain proved as spoilsport in some states on the occasion of Dussehra which totally disrupted the festive mood yesterday. Interestingly, in order to prevent the rain damage on the occasion of Dussehra, a committee in Bhopal installed a waterproof Ravana effigy on the old compound ground.
The Indian Meteorological Department of India has reported in its morning bulletin, “In view of the likely persistence of an anti-cyclonic circulation in the lower tropospheric level over northwest India, gradual reduction in moisture in the lower & mid-troposphere levels and reduction in rainfall, conditions are becoming favorable for commencement of withdrawal of Southwest Monsoon from some parts of northwest India during next 2 days.”
On the other hand, many places over Odisha, Arunachal Pradesh along with the rest Northeastern states and isolated places over Himachal Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Coastal Andhra Pradesh & Yanam, Telangana lashed with heavy rainfall yesterday during the festive night.
In Bihar, the water level of Punpun and Ganga rivers continued to recede Sunday, even as the death toll rose to 97 from 73 in 15 flood-affected districts of Bihar, officials told in front of media. Other rivers including the Burhi Gandak, Kamala Balan, Bagmati, Mahananda are also showing a declining trend in water level.
On the other hand, revelers thronged the streets of Kolkata amid scattered rain on ‘Mahashtami’ and were seen standing in long queues outside prominent puja pandals on Sunday in West Bengal.
Meanwhile, some parts of Himachal Pradesh witnessed snowfall yesterday. As per the report, higher reaches of Lahaul-Spiti and Kullu districts received snowfall which affected traffic movement on Manali-Leh Highway between Rani Nallah and Rohtang Pass and all routine buses on Keylong-Manali route had stopped for hours.
Maximum temperatures reported above normal (3.1°C to 5.0°C) at isolated places over Uttarakhand, Chhattisgarh and Coastal areas while minimum temperatures were reported above normal (3.1°C to 5.0°C) at isolated places over Jammu & Kashmir, East Rajasthan, and Andaman & Nicobar Islands.
