Weather Report: Due to continuous heavy rainfall since past few days, many people have lost their lives in Uttar Pradesh and Bihar. According to latest figures, at least 73 people have been killed in rain-related incidents in Uttar Pradesh while death toll in Bihar remains close to 29.
The water-logging is so much that it has entered into houses, schools and shops. People are seen floating in boats over local roads. In Bihar, because of heavy rainfall normal life has been badly hit and many trains have been cancelled. A red alert was issued in 13 districts of Bihar as there was no respite from rains. Officials said Bihar has not witnessed such waterlogging since the 1975 floods. The state government has asked 2 helicopters from Air Force for lifting & airdropping food packets as well as medicines. The Patna district administration has asked all schools to be closed till Tuesday.
Similarly, Jharkhand too has recorded heavy to very heavy rainfall since last 2-3 days. This rainfall has occurred in view of a Cyclonic Circulation in the North Bay of Bengal. Also, there is an East-West Trough, which is extending from Haryana to West Bengal across Uttar Pradesh & Bihar. Extremely heavy rains in many parts of Jharkhand have resulted in flood like situation mainly in Giridih and adjoining areas.
According to weather department, rains will continue to lash Jharkhand for another 24 hours, which means until 30th September, there will be moderate to heavy showers in many parts of the state. And from 1st October, rainfall will start reducing. However, southern & eastern districts may continue to witness some rain activity even until then.
On the other hand, a Well Marked Low-Pressure Area is also lying over Northeast Arabian Sea & neighbouring Kutch and Saurashtra. This system will move east/north-eastwards slowly and is likely to intensify into a Depression after 12 hours. Due to this movement, there will be moderate to heavy rainfall along with thundershower & strong winds gusting to 40 to 60 kmph in several parts of Kutch and Saurashtra. Places like Ahmedabad, Rajkot, Gandhinagar Junagadh, Amreli, Surendranagar, Sabarkantha, Patan, Mehsana, Bhuj, Jamnagar, Kandla, Veraval and Vadodara may experience flooding rains for the next 2 days.
Major crops such as Cotton, Groundnut, Jowar and Bajra will obviously have to bear the brunt of this flooding rainfall.
Last but not the least, weather in Delhi is likely to remain pleasant with possibilities of light showers at isolated places.
