Heatwave Alert Issued for Northwest and Central India; Delhi May Touch 42°C by April 8

The IMD has issued a severe heatwave alert for northwest and central India, with severe conditions expected in Rajasthan, Gujarat, and parts of Delhi over the coming days. Delhi may record temperatures as high as 42°C on April 7 and 8.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a fresh heatwave alert for several parts of northwest and central India, warning of extreme temperatures and hot, humid conditions over the next six days. Delhi is likely to witness maximum temperatures reaching 42°C by April 7 and 8, with heatwave conditions predicted across most parts of the capital.

According to the IMD bulletin, heatwave to severe heatwave conditions are expected in isolated to a few areas of Saurashtra and Kutch between April 5 and 9. West Rajasthan will experience extreme heat from April 6 to 9, while East Rajasthan may face similar conditions on April 7. Isolated pockets in West Uttar Pradesh, South Haryana, Delhi, and Punjab are likely to experience heatwave conditions on April 7 and 8. Himachal Pradesh will also be affected by these conditions from April 5 to 7.

Additionally, the IMD has warned of hot and humid weather across Gujarat from April 5 to 10, and over Konkan and Goa from April 5 to 9. Parts of West Madhya Pradesh may experience heatwave conditions from April 7 to 10, while East Madhya Pradesh and Vidarbha are likely to see high temperatures on April 8, 9, and 10.

In Delhi-NCR, the maximum temperature has remained above normal by up to 4°C over the past 24 hours, while the minimum temperature has been near normal. The IMD has forecast a gradual rise in temperature over the coming days, with predominantly clear skies and light winds prevailing.

On April 5, the city is expected to record a maximum of 35-37°C. The temperature is likely to rise further to 38-40°C on April 6. On April 7 and 8, heatwave conditions are very likely at most places in Delhi, with maximum temperatures expected to range between 40-42°C.

Residents have been advised to avoid exposure to direct sunlight during peak hours, stay hydrated, and take necessary precautions against heat-related illnesses. The IMD continues to monitor the situation and issue updates as required.
