With the aim to take banking services to every nook and corner of India, HDFC Bank started its state-of-the-art "Bank on Wheels" van facility in Tamil Nadu's Virudhunagar district today.
The "Bank on Wheels" van, a project of the bank's Rural Banking Business (RBB), will make weekly visits to a few villages in the Virudhunagar district that are within a 10- to 25-kilometer radius. It offers 21 banking services and products and makes two weekly visits to each village.
After Gujarat, Maharashtra, West Bengal, and Punjab, Tamil Nadu is the fifth state where this service is made available to the public.
Sashidhar Jagdishan, the managing director and chief executive officer of HDFC Bank, flagged off the van at the Virudhunagar Vyaparigal Sangam in the presence of Anil Bhavnani, the Senior Executive Vice President and head of rural banking, RBB, and Sanjeev Kumar, the branch banking head for the south.

Nearly half of HDFC Bank's 6,800+ branches are located in semi-urban and rural areas. The mobile bank will provide services and goods such as savings accounts, cash withdrawals, and cash deposits. Aadhaar linkage, passbook updates, fixed deposits, gold loans, farmer loans, car loans, and tractor loans are just a few examples.
