Following two rounds of meetings with the farmers' body, Deputy Chief Minister Dushyant Chautala declared that the Haryana government and the protesting farmers have reached an "agreement to some extent."
Dushyant told journalists in Hisar today that they had attended two rounds of discussions with kisan union representatives.
"A dialogue is currently underway between the Centre and the farmers' organization Samyukta Kisan Morcha. There is agreement, more or less, following two rounds of negotiation, on topics pertaining to the Haryana Government, such as the withdrawal of proceedings against farmers and other state-specific demands," he added.
The Deputy Chief Minister stated that once the Centre and the farmers' group achieve an agreement, the state will take steps to remove all charges except those involving rape and murder.
A group of lawyers opposed the Deputy Chief Minister's visit to the court complex today.
The lawyers who had staged a dharna in support of the farmers' agitation claimed that the Centre and state governments were yet to agree on the demands of the farmer unions. During Dushyant's visit, Kisan Sabha activists also held protests outside the mini secretariat. Dushyant expressed optimism for a favorable outcome, stating that a committee of the government and farmers has been constituted to discuss MSP.
He stated that the Haryana government has acquired the maximum number of crops at MSP and that payments were being sent directly into the farmers' accounts. Haryana is the only state in the country which has implemented the Bhavantar Bharpayee Yojana on 19 different varieties of fruits and vegetables.
He stated that other states should emulate Haryana's agricultural development models. Later, Dushyant paid a visit to the District Bar Association to inaugurate the main entrance and to start off the reconstruction of the Digital Bar Library. He gave the organization a donation of Rs.31 lakh.
