The Haryana government has started the process of compensating the families of the state's deceased farmers, who died during the year-long agitation against three farm laws which were later repealed by the Union government.
BJP MLA from Rai Mohan Lal Badoli and other BJP officials distributed financial compensation of Rs.5 lakh each to the families of eight deceased farmers in Sonepat district on Sunday.
"I visited the houses of eight deceased farmer families and offered them a financial assistance of 5 lakh each on behalf of the Haryana government, as well as expressing my condolences for the loss of their loved ones in the farm agitation. Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar was also saddened by the loss of farmers, and he is committed to providing assistance to these families in the future, if necessary," Rai MLA added.
In Sonepat district, he has assisted the families of Rajesh, Dilbagh, Kulbir Singh, Ajay Moor, Umid Singh, Rajender Pannu, Manoj Sharma, and Dharmpal Malik.
Ishwar Singh, Ajay Moor's father and a resident of Baroda village, believes the government should also offer his daughter-in-law a job so she can run the family.
Inderjit Singh, leader of the Samyukta Kisan Morcha, stated that they expected the state government to provide more compensation to the families of deceased farmers than the Punjab government, but it paid the same amount.
"In addition to the 5 lakh, the Punjab government provided jobs to the next of kin of the deceased farmers." The Haryana government should either enhance the compensation amount or employ one member of the family of the deceased farmers. This issue will be discussed at the Samyukta Kisan Morcha meeting. "The state government has withdrawn nearly 82 of the 250 FIRs registered during the farm protest, and it should begin the process of withdrawing other FIRs as well," he added.
Two farm leaders, who requested anonymity, said that during the final discussions, Union government officials assured SKM leaders that the BJP-JJP administration in Haryana would not grant employment to the deceased's next-of-kin, but would enhance the compensation amount.
On 'Betrayal Day,' SKM leader Suresh Koth stated, "The Union and state governments of Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, and Himachal Pradesh have taken no action on the pledge of rapid dismissal of cases registered during the farm protest. Concerning MSP, the government has not announced the formation of a committee nor provided any information regarding the nature of the committee or its mandate.
We further demand that the Haryana government withdraw the Land Acquisition Act 2013, as amended, and the Recovery of Damages to Public and Private Property Act."
"Despite the SIT report acknowledging a conspiracy, Union minister of state Ajay Mishra Teni is yet to be removed from the cabinet. The UP Police have implicated farmers in connection with the Lakhimpur Kheri incident,” he added.
