The Haryana Agriculture Department, in coordination with Haryana Police, seized a large quantity of spurious agro-chemicals in Kaithal district following a raid on September 28, 2025. The operation was carried out under the supervision of Sub Divisional Agriculture Officer (SDO) Satish Kumar Nara, with assistance from Pundri Police.
Officials said the raid took place at a godown in Ganesh Market, Fatehpur, where counterfeit pesticides and packaging materials were recovered. The seized items, valued at approximately Rs 8 lakh, included products bearing the brand names of major companies such as Bayer (Regent Ultra, Nativo), UPL (Saaf), Syngenta (Virtako, Amistar), FMC (Ferterra) and Dhanuka (Caldan 4G).
Authorities reported that fake labels, cartons, bottles, and repacked materials were prepared for circulation in the market. During the operation, the accused, identified as Subhash Chand of Fatehpur, was present. He failed to provide any valid licenses, registration, or company authorization documents for the products in question.
Based on the findings, an FIR was lodged at Police Station Pundri. The case has been registered under relevant provisions of the Insecticides Act, 1968, Copyright Act, 1957, Trade Marks Act, 1999, and sections 318(4), 336(3), 338, and 340 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), 2023.
Officials confirmed that samples from the seized stock were collected for laboratory testing. Police said investigation is ongoing and legal proceedings will follow.
Earlier this year, a joint team of agriculture officials and police had seized counterfeit pesticides worth over Rs 10 lakh in Hisar district. In that case too, duplicate packaging of well-known agro-chemical brands was being used to mislead farmers.
Note to Farmers:
As the spraying season is at its peak, farmers are strongly advised to purchase agro-chemicals only from licensed dealers, check the batch number, manufacturing date, and company seal carefully, and double-check authenticity with the company helpline or local agriculture office before use. Counterfeit products not only cause heavy financial losses but also harm crop health and soil fertility.
