A list of 1,040 farmers has been prepared to whom residential plots will be given by the Greater Noida authority. This is an attempt to allay any future protests by farmers.

Farmers have said that they will launch into an indefinite protest outside the authority buildings if they are not given the residential plots that they have been asking for. The plot allotment began last November, giving land to farmers whose land had been taken for infrastructure and industrial projects.

The authority allows 6% of the total acquired land back to the land owner as per the rules. The authority also delayed the allotment process in the past years and over 39 farmers whose land has been acquired since 2000 have been waiting.

Ritu Maheshwari, chief executive officer of the Greater Noida authority, stated, "We have produced the list of such farmers, whose plots have been ready to be given for residential use.

The norms state that the land department should inform the urban town planning department about the size of the residential land that should be allotted to the farmer based on the land acquired by him/her. The authority also executes the registry of the plots in the name of the farmer and also sets the plots in the residential areas.

Another list with 705 is also under process, said the Noida Authority, this list contains farmers whose plots will soon be finalized.

19,210 farmers are eligible to get plots for their personal use, according to the authority.

According to officials, the authority has already distributed 17,074 plots to qualified farmers, and distribution to the other farmers is in progress.

The authority executes the registry to transfer the property title after the allotment process is complete. The authority stated that it has completed the registration of 12,435 plots thus far and that the paperwork for the remaining plots is in progress.

"The authority must move quickly to execute the registry of plots that are designated for specific sectors. Additionally, the administration must immediately earmark the plots of the remaining farmers, according to farmer activist Manveer Bhati.
