Union Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change (MoEFCC) is set to host the 'India 2047: Building a Climate-Resilient Future' Conference from March 19 to 22, 2025, at Bharat Mandapam in New Delhi. The event aims to address the challenges of climate adaptation and strengthen India’s resilience through effective policies and field-level actions.

The conference is being organized in collaboration with Lakshmi Mittal and Family South Asia Institute and The Salata Institute for Climate and Sustainability at Harvard University. It will bring together eminent policymakers, academicians, researchers, and private sector representatives to deliberate on pressing environmental concerns.

Spanning over four days, the conference will feature multiple breakout and technical sessions under four core themes: Climate Science and its implications on Water & Agriculture, Health, Work, and Built Environment. The focus on water and agriculture will explore the consequences of heatwaves, changing monsoon patterns, and water distribution challenges, emphasizing both scientific perspectives and policy responses. The health segment will gather experts to assess the adverse effects of extreme temperatures on public health, aiming to strengthen the resilience of health systems.

Distinguished dignitaries, including Suman Bery, Vice Chairperson of NITI Aayog, and Kirti Vardhan Singh, Union Minister of State for Environment, Forest and Climate Change, will grace the event. The conference will also feature notable speakers from Harvard University, such as Prof. Tarun Khanna, Prof. Jim Stock, and Prof. Daniel P. Schrag, along with leading experts from government bodies, academia, and the private sector.

The theme on work will analyse the impact of climate change on labor productivity, addressing sector-specific challenges. Simultaneously, the built environment discussions will explore adaptive infrastructure strategies to mitigate the effects of rising temperatures. Throughout the event, crosscutting issues like governance, traditional knowledge, livelihoods, gender, and financing will be woven into the discourse to ensure holistic policy outcomes.

Workshops and discussions will lead to actionable outputs, including research papers, technical documents, and policy briefs, contributing valuable insights to global climate initiatives. Participants will have the opportunity to engage in interdisciplinary dialogue, fostering collaboration among government agencies, academic institutions, civil society, and the private sector.

With India approaching its centenary of independence in 2047, the conference serves as a crucial milestone in building a climate-resilient nation. Insights gathered from this platform will play a significant role in the formulation of India's National Adaptation Plan, ensuring evidence-based, inclusive, and sustainable policy frameworks.
