Prime Minister Narendra Modi will today inaugurate “Gobar-Dhan (Bio-CNG) Plant” in Indore at 1pm via video conferencing. The Indore Bio-CNG plant was built with the overarching principles of "waste to wealth" and "circular economy" in view to maximize resource recovery.
According to the Prime Minister's Office, the plant is in line with PM Modi's vision of creating "garbage-free cities" under the Swachh Bharat Mission Urban 2.0.

The plant, which is located on the Devguradia trenching ground, has a capacity of 550 tonnes per day of segregated wet organic waste. According to the PMO, it is expected to produce around 17,000 kg of CNG per day and 100 tonnes of organic compost per day.

Based on zero-landfill models, the plant will not generate rejects by maximizing resource recovery.

Furthermore, the project is intended to produce many environmental benefits, including reduction in greenhouse gas emissions, the provision of green energy with organic compost as fertilizer.

Indore Clean Energy Pvt. Ltd, a Special Purpose Vehicle created to implement the project, was set up by Indore Municipal Corporation (IMC) and Indo Enviro Integrated Solutions Ltd. (IEISL) under a Public-Private Partnership model, with a 100 per cent capital investment of Rs.150 crores by IEISL, stated an official release.

Indore Municipal Corporation will acquire a minimum 50% of the CNG produced by the plant and in a first-of-its-kind initiative, run 400 city buses on the CNG. The remaining CNG will be sold in the open market. Organic compost will aid in the replacement of chemical fertilizers in agricultural and horticultural purposes.
Madhya Pradesh governor Mangubhai Patel, Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan, Union Minister for housing, petroleum and natural gas Hardeep Singh Puri, state Home Minister Narottam Mishra and Water Resources Minister Tulsiram Silawat among others will be present on the occasion.
