Dr. Philipp Ackermann, the Ambassador of the Federal Republic of Germany, met with Dr. Devesh Chaturvedi, Secretary, Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare (MoA&FW) on January 15, 2025, at Krishi Bhawan to discuss deepening Indo-German cooperation in agriculture. This high-level meeting aimed to explore collaborative opportunities in post-harvest technology, organic and natural farming, and agricultural mechanization.

Dr. Chaturvedi highlighted the strong and enduring partnership between India and Germany, emphasizing the role of Intergovernmental Consultations (IGC), Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs), and Joint Declarations of Intent (JDIs) in fostering bilateral relations.

He also pointed to the ongoing collaboration in digital agriculture and triangular development initiatives, which had been key topics during recent IGC discussions. The forthcoming Joint Working Group (JWG) meeting is expected to further cement this collaboration and identify new areas of mutual interest.

The discussions focused on crucial topics, including the promotion of natural and organic farming methods to enhance soil health and boost productivity. The meeting also addressed strengthening Farmer Producer Organizations (FPOs), advancing sustainable agricultural practices, and developing the seed sector.

Digital agriculture emerged as a critical area for innovation, while capacity building and fostering investments in food processing industries were identified as strategic priorities. Both sides stressed the importance of enhancing horticultural exports and expanding trade opportunities between the two nations.

The meeting concluded with a shared vision to deepen cooperation in agricultural innovation, trade, and technology. This partnership aims to deliver mutually beneficial outcomes by leveraging each country's strengths and addressing common challenges in the sector.

The German delegation included Alexandre Callegaro, Minister Counsellor, and Ingeborg Bayer, Counsellor. Representing the Indian side were Dr. P.K. Meherda, Additional Secretary (DA & FW), senior officials from the Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare, and representatives from the Ministry of External Affairs and the Soil and Land Use Survey of India. Both nations reaffirmed their commitment to enhancing collaboration and achieving sustainable agricultural growth.
