Government e-Marketplace (GeM) has launched a special campaign during Vigilance Awareness Week with the theme “GeM Ki Sunien, Satark Rahein, Zimmedar Banein,” aimed at strengthening transparency, integrity, and ethical practices in public procurement.

The campaign is designed to educate buyers on following best practices, complying with rules, and making use of GeM’s in-built safeguards, while also expanding opportunities for last-mile entrepreneurs, startups, and micro and small enterprises (MSEs), particularly from Tier-2 and Tier-3 cities.

GeM already offers features such as red-flag alerts, structured bid conditions, and transparent audit trails to ensure accountability and fairness in every transaction. As part of this drive, the platform has also begun outreach in local languages, starting with Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh, to raise awareness among small businesses and entrepreneurs in remote areas.

Calling GeM more than just a marketplace, CEO Mihir Kumar described it as a “national commitment to fairness, inclusion, and trust in public procurement.” He noted that Vigilance Awareness Week reminds all stakeholders that transparency and responsibility must be shared values.

To further empower small sellers, GeM has introduced eight #VocalForLocal outlets and curated market pages for startups, artisans, weavers, self-help groups, and farmer-producer organizations. In addition, policies such as waiving caution money for new sellers and exempting 97 percent of orders from transaction fees have simplified participation and made it more affordable.

The impact of these initiatives is already visible. In Madhya Pradesh, sellers have received orders worth Rs 38,027 crore, with MSEs contributing Rs 26,937 crore, startups Rs 1,584 crore, women-led enterprises Rs 3,197 crore, and SC/ST entrepreneurs Rs 1,306 crore.

In Chhattisgarh, orders worth Rs 87,873 crore have been facilitated, including Rs 48,575 crore for MSEs, Rs 420 crore for startups, Rs 1,242 crore for women entrepreneurs, and Rs 199 crore for SC/ST sellers.
