The recently elected BJP-led government in Rajasthan is making strides towards fulfilling its electoral commitments. A pivotal pledge outlined in their manifesto assured voters of a reduction in cylinder prices to an affordable Rs 450. As they assume governance, the BJP is actively working to translate this promise into tangible benefits for the residents of Rajasthan.
The BJP government in Rajasthan declared on Wednesday, that it will implement a key promise starting from January 1, 2024, where the prices of gas cylinders under the Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana scheme will witness a notable reduction to Rs 450, marking a substantial Rs 50 decrease from the prevailing rates. This proactive decision aligns with the party's commitment to providing tangible benefits to the public.
Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana
In May 2016, the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas (MOPNG) unveiled the transformative 'Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana' (PMUY) initiative. This flagship scheme aimed to extend access to clean cooking fuel, particularly LPG, to rural and marginalized households previously reliant on traditional fuels like firewood, coal, and cow-dung cakes.
The adverse effects of using these conventional fuels were not only detrimental to the health of rural women but also had severe environmental repercussions.
Launched on May 1, 2016, in Ballia, Uttar Pradesh, the Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana marked a pivotal moment in addressing socio-economic challenges. The inauguration was conducted by the Prime Minister of India Narendra Modi, underscoring the government's commitment to improving the well-being of rural households, promoting cleaner energy solutions, and mitigating the environmental impact of traditional cooking practices.
Chief Minister Bhajan Lal Sharma, during the announcement of the reduction of gas cylinder prices, emphasized a streamlined approach by confirming that the subsidy would be directly transferred to the accounts of the beneficiary women. This transparent and efficient method not only ensures direct financial assistance but also aligns with the government's commitment to enhance economic empowerment and support for women, marking a significant step towards inclusive and accountable governance.
